After a sudden and lengthy break, DC Nation returns tomorrow, Saturday, January 5, 2013, featuring Green Lantern: The Animated Series and Young Justice plus two shorts, Amethyst and Thunder & Lightning featuring super dad Black Lightning and his two daughters Anissa and Jennifer who have powers of their own. The programming block kicks off at 10:00 am eastern.
Green Lantern: The Animated Series “Steam Lantern”
Premiers Saturday at 10:00 a.m. ET/PT
Knocked into the Antimatter Universe, Hal lands on a steampunk world. There, he meets the idealistic Steam Lantern, who patterns himself after the Green Lanterns. With help from his new allies, Hal must find a way back home before the Anti-Monitor destroys his universe.
Steampunk, huh? Sounds (and looks) interesting! Next up is Young Justice.
Young Justice: Invasion “Before the Dawn”
Premiers Saturday at 10:30 a.m. ET/PT
On a covert mission to rescue some of its own, the team, Blue Beetle and Miss Martian uncover shocking secrets… and devastating truths!
Do M’Gann and Beetle find out the truth about Aqualad and Artemis’ secret mission? Or something else?
And finally, although I’m sad that there are no more Super Best Friends Forever shorts on the way, I’m seriously impressed that DC and Cartoon Network are actually making an unprecedented attempt to market super heroes to girls. This week we get TWO shorts with young female protagonists, Amethyst and Thunder & Lightning!
Amethyst: Princess of Gemworld – “Level 1: Your Quest”
Looks very Sailor Moon… and girlie. That’s not a bad thing! It could appeal to the more “princess”-oriented girls that think super heroes are a “boy thing.”
Thunder & Lightning – “Clothes Make the Hero”
While the girls get the headline, it looks like papa Black Lightning plays a pretty large role, taking on the Masters of Disaster. And Easter Eggs: the scientist depicted appears to be drawn to resemble Black Lightning’s creator Tony Isabella and I’ve seen a short clip of this and Super Friends‘ Black Vulcan makes something of a cameo.
So are you excited for the return of DC Nation? Make sure you’re DVR is ready! (Unless you’re one of those odd early risers.)
