The new ABC ‘S.H.I.E.L.D’ team has found its sixth and final member in the form of Chloe Bennet. According to THR, Bennet has been cast as Skye, “a confident woman who is slightly obsessed with superhero culture and the shadow organizations that exists within it. She’s edgy and can out-talk anyone with her unflappable nature.” In the casting breakdown about the character, Skye is also described as “fun, smart, caring and confident – with an ability to get the upper hand by using her wit and charm.”

If Bennet looks familiar, that’s because she has been appearing on the ABC country music nighttime soap opera, ‘Nashville,’ as record company assistant Hailey and has appeared in the ABCFamily movie ‘Intercept.’

She’ll be joining the rest of the S.H.I.E.L.D. team which includes Ming-Na as Agent Melinda May, Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, Brett Dalton as Agent Grant Ward, Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Gemma Simmons and Ian De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz. Since Bennet’s character has only been described as Skye, it’s assumed she’s not an agent and may play someone on the support team instead.

Now that the S.H.I.E.L.D. team is complete, when can TV viewers see them in action? According to Jeph Loeb, famed comic book writer and head of Marvel Television:

“Well…we have a “little” pilot for television that you might have heard about called Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D. co-written, directed, and Executive Produced by none other than Joss Whedon! Working with Joss, Jed Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen, Jeffrey Bell on the show is a blast!  And bringing in Clark Gregg to play Agent Phil Coulson — the best!  Hopefully we will be on in the Fall of 2013 on ABC!”

That’s right! Expect to see the series debut as part of the 2013 Fall Television season!

This version of  ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ may be a bit different than what you’re use to seeing in the Marvel film. While it will still revolve around the activities of the top secret law enforcement organization Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistic Directorate that has been a part of the Marvel films in the past, Whedon has stated that this team will be “autonomous” and exist in a world adjacent to the Marvel Cinematic Universe outside such films like ‘The Avengers.’

With ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ slated to go into production in January, make sure you keep checking back here at ScienceFiction.com for information about the series as filming occurs.

So how excited are you for the series and what do you think of the new ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ team?
