After making the acquisition of Lucasfilms two weeks ago, Disney’s ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ is finally starting to come together. While talks of a director are still ongoing, ‘Toy Story 3’ writer Michael Arndt has officially been brought on to pen the first installment of the new trilogy. There’s also been some talks about who would return to the franchise if asked, and so far that list includes Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill. However, according to one report, another big name from George Lucas’ monumental franchise is eyeing a return. Cue the Imperial March because it looks like Darth Vader is making a comeback!

According to British tabloid site Express.co.uk, industry insiders inform them that the Dark Lord of the Sith is going to be resurrected and play a “significant role” in the new trilogy produced by the House of Mouse. Here’s the whole quote:

“He’s an integral part of the franchise. Replacing him is virtually impossible. The plan is for him to return and play a significant role in the new films.”

For those of you keeping score at home, the former Anakin Skywalker met his demise in ‘Return of the Jedi,’ but this site seems to think that he’s coming back from the dead to wreak havoc on those who wronged him because the report goes on to say, “This is science fiction, remember. Darth Vader will rise from the ashes.”

Knowing that this is coming from a British tabloid, which isn’t exactly the best source for news on these topics, makes me more than a little skeptical, but I wouldn’t doubt that the studio would want to bring back one of the franchise’s most iconic and marketable characters back into the fray. However, I hope that they don’t go down that road.
