Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine has proven to be the breakout star of Fox’s ‘X-Men’ franchise appearing in the original trilogy, two solo movies and in a few weeks, in ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ which features both the original and the ‘First Class’ casts.  It was previously announced that the next X-Men movie will be titled ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ and would clearly involve that signature villain, but it was originally stated that the movie would only feature the “First Class” characters, but now it seems that Jackman will also be included.  This is in addition to another ‘Wolverine’ solo movie.

‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ is due to hit theaters in 2016 with the third ‘Wolverine’ movie due in 2017.  Jackman, along with producers Lauren Shuler Donner and Hutch Parker, seemed to verify that he will be doing double duty in the next year.  Jackman commented on possibly filming the two movies back-to-back, stating:

“Physically, even though I was complaining about it because I found out about [‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’] a month before I finished ‘The Wolverine’, so I was already planning on my cheat meals.  It’s much easier because it’s tough to get there, physically, but once you’re there, it’s easier to maintain it.”

Lauren Shuler Donner stated, “Well, we announced ‘Apocalypse’ to come out in 2016, so that means we have to shoot next summer.  And then we’d have to shoot our new ‘Wolverine’ movie either before or after that.  I think after because it will come out after.”

Parker added, “And as much as you have an ambition for these things, it is, as you said about Hugh, getting a script that everybody feels is ready and right.  Because that is the foundation on which everything is built.  So I think the goal will be ‘Apocalypse’ for 2016, which means at the latest [filming begins] in summer 2015, and then the same thing with ‘Wolverine’, either before or after, but based on the script.”

As far as that solo ‘Wolverine’ movie, Jackman appears to be quite involved.  He and director James Mangold (who helmed ‘The Wolverine’) are apparently working on the plot together.
