Marvel Comics revealed that famed artist and Renaissance man Leonardo Da Vinci was a member of S.H.I.E.L.D. a few years back, but writer David Goyer is taking that a step further by saying that Da Vinci was more of a bona fide superhero! No, the writer of ‘The Dark Knight’ isn’t writing an episode of Joss Whedon’s ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ featuring the inventor. Instead, Goyer is putting the historical figure at the center of a new fantasy series on the Starz Network called ‘Da Vinci’s Demons’ where we’ll see the 25-year old version of Da Vinci as he “struggles to live within the confines of his own reality and time with intellect and talents that are almost superhuman.”

The first trailer for the new show has just been released and, thanks to Blastr, you can check it out after the full synopsis of the show:

Synopsis:

In a world where thought and faith are controlled, one man fights to set knowledge free. Leonardo da Vinci is tortured by a gift of superhuman genius. He finds himself in a conflict between truth and lies, religion and reason, past and future. His aspirations are used against him by the opposing forces of the time – luring him into a game of seduction where those who despise his intellect need him most. His quest for knowledge nearly becomes his undoing. Da Vinci throws himself into his genius and emerges as an unstoppable force that lifts an entire era out of darkness and propels it into light. His story becomes a mirror into our own world, calling us all to join his fight to free the future.

Starring Tom Riley as Leonardo Da Vinci, ‘Da Vinci’s Demons’ premieres on Starz in Spring 2013.
