Producer Avi Arad was one of the men responsible for the rise of Marvel Studios and now that he left, he’s trying to do the same thing with video game movies. Right now he’s working on adaptations of ‘Uncharted’ and ‘Mass Effect’, but it appears that he’s also trying to resurrect another popular video game franchise and give it new life on the big screen. According to Collider, at the Metal Gear Anniversary event in Tokyo, Arad appeared onstage and announced that he intends to bring Solid Snake to a theater near you.

As the former chairman and CEO of Marvel Studios, Arad was credited as the producer or executive producer of some of the best superhero movies such as ‘Spider-Man’, ‘X-Men’, and ‘Iron Man’. But sadly he’s also been attached to some of the worst superhero movies like ‘Spider-Man 3’, ‘Hulk’, ‘Ghost Rider’, and more. With ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ being a hit, and all these video game properties in development, maybe things could be coming up Avi if he gets the right people involved.

While in front of the audience, the producer had this to say about his plans for his ‘Metal Gear Solid’ movie:

“For many years I fought to bring comics to theaters. Comic books are now biggest genre in cinema, [and] video games are the comic books of today… We will take our time and tell the story with all the nuances, ideology, cautionary tales needed.”

Hmmm… I have a bit to say about that, but I’ll spare you the diatribe. Anyway, ‘The Social Network’ producer Michael De Luca previously attempted to adapt the Konami game series into a movie in 2008, but development halted in 2012 and the project lied dormant until now.

No word yet on how soon we’ll be seeing Snake stick it to some terrorists on the big screen, but know that it’s in the works.
