While Season 6 of ‘Dexter’ left much to be desired according to many fans, the new poster for Season 7 hints that a new direction for the series will be in store.
WARNING! SPOILERS! (If you haven’t yet seen the season finale of the series then I suggest you skip reading and just look at the photos below)
The new season will pick up immediately where season 6 left off with Deb (Jennifer Carpenter) walking in to see the person she’s about to profess her love to plunge a sword into Travis, last season’s big baddie. The tagline (“He saw. She saw.”) and the signature cheek slice on the poster suggests that that the killer may now be a victim of his own actions or that the hunter may now be the hunted. Either case, the show is headed in an exciting new direction.
At the TCA summer press tour, executive producer Sara Colleton said that the timing of Deb finding out about Dexter’s extracurricular activities by stumbling upon it rather than using her police investigations skills was six seasons in the making:
“She stumbles upon it in the middle of her emotional override: not only does she love her foster brother but she’s feeling she’s in love with him. It’s an emotional reason why she goes there and it’s the last thing she expects to find in Dexter in one of his kills.”
In addition to the new poster, here are some first looks at Yvonne Strahovski (‘Chuck,’ ‘I, Frankenstein‘), Ray Stevenson (‘G.I. Joe: Retailiation,’ ‘The Three Musketeers,’ “Thor: The Dark World’) and Jason Gedrick (‘Desperate Housewives,’ ‘Backdraft’).
Seeing that ‘Dexter’ has only been renewed for 2 years suggests that this may be the second to the last installment of new episodes for the series. While producers are looking to end the series after Season 8, Showtime is hoping that they can convince the showrunners to tack on one more year. Regardless, this new revelation and the addition of the new characters will give a much needed boost to the series that follows everyone’s favorite Forensic Blood Splatter analyst with a Dark Passenger.
‘Dexter’ returns to Showtime on Sunday’s at 9PM ET/PT beginning September 30th.
