After a long wait of negotiations, Dexter’s Michael C. Hall has signed on to play Dexter Morgan for 2 more seasons, keeping the TV show’s star, locking him in for 2 more seasons of our favorite serial killer. The current 6th season of Dexter gathers 5.12 million fans on all platforms (original air, DVR and On Demand) making it the highest rated season yet.

David Nevins, President of Entertainment, Showtime Inc., said the following: “Dexter’s enormous success is a real tribute to the great achievements of its cast, producers, and the powerhouse performance of Michael C. Hall,” he continues, “The series is bigger than it’s ever been in its sixth season, both in terms of audience and its impact on the cultural landscape. Together with Michael, the creative team on the show has a very clear sense of where they intend to take the show over the next two seasons and, as a huge fan, I’m excited to watch the story of Dexter Morgan play out.”

Dexter himself, Michael C. Hall has been quoted saying, “On behalf of the entire ‘Dexter’ family, we relish the invitation to delve ever deeper into Dexter’s world.”

Seasons 7 and 8 will both be composed of 12 episodes, and will continue to air on Showtime.

[UPDATE]

But with good news comes the sad, and that is this. Just after announcing the 2 seasons, David Nevins has said they will be the final two seasons. During the negotiations, it was decided that the show had a 3 year trajectory rate, with Season 6 included. There is a small hope that Dexter will continue on though. “I’m not going to say with absolute certainty that this is the end, but that is the likely scenario, that the series is moving towards a definite end,” Nevins said.

What do you think of more Dexter? Are you excited or would you like the show to end with Season 6? Where do you think Seasons 7 and 8 are going to go? If Season 8 really is the final season, where do you think the show will go with its final two seasons? Do you think shows do even better when they know they have a certain amount of time left?
