Shane Black’s ‘Iron Man 3’ starring Robert Downey Jr. has been filming down in Wilmington, North Carolina for a few weeks now. While we may have gotten an unofficial photo from set last week of James Badge Dale wearing the Iron Patriot armor, today we get an official picture from the set featuring Mr. Tony Stark himself as he admires his collection of armor, as seen above.
The picture comes with a lengthy press release that reminds us all of how successful ‘The Avengers’ was, who’s returning for the third installment of the Iron Man series, and all that jazz. Basically, it’s all things that we already know, however, as /Film points out, we do learn that Oscar winner John Toll (‘Cloud Atlas’, ‘Tropic Thunder’, ‘Braveheart’) will be taking over director of photography duties from Matthew Libatique, who worked with previous director Jon Favreau on the first two films.
‘Iron Man 3’, the next step for billionaire playboy philanthropist superhero Tony Stark and the first step for Marvel’s Phase Two, will feature RDJ, Ben Kingsley, Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Rebecca Hall, James Badge Dale, Ashley Hamilton, and Guy Pearce. It opens in theaters on May 3, 2013.
In addition to the official press release going out today, a local North Carolina, news station, WRAL, visited Epic Games Studio in Cary, NC to catch a glimpse of the stars on set. They didn’t get to see anyone of merit, but they did catch a glimpse of some set preparation that might reveal that the film takes place around the holiday season.
