Following in the footsteps of ‘The Hunger Games’ and ‘The Amazing Spider-Man,’ word has it that Universal is speeding up development on a sequel to ‘Snow White and the Huntsman.’
The movie doesn’t come out in theaters until June 1st but the buzz has been encouraging enough to push Universal into starting discussions with David Koepp (‘Men in Black III’, ‘War of the Worlds’, ‘Jurassic Park’ and Sam Raimi’s ‘Spider-Man’) to write the sequel. It’s hoped that Koepp can get a script written quickly enough that the current director of ‘Snow White and the Huntsman,’ Rupert Sanders, can make it the next project he directs.
While nothing has been said about what the sequel will entail, Universal Studio president and COO Ron Meyer did state that the studio felt that the character of the Huntsman could become a franchise of his own. I can already see him as a feature player with Red Riding Hood (‘Red Riding Hood and the Huntsman’ has a good ring to it.) Unfortunately at this point since we don’t know how the film will end, there’s no guessing if Kristen Stewart or Charlize Theron will be part of this sequel (or even if they are available or willing).
From the looks of the featurettes, TV spots and trailers, there is no doubt that ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ will be a box office success so the possibility of a sequel is pretty much a certainty. What’s uncertain at this point is who will be in the forefront of the story.
So what do you think? Would you like to see a sequel just focusing on the Huntsman or would you like to see the return of Snow et al?
