Yesterday, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. made major waves when they officially announced the line up for their upcoming supervillain team up from writer/director David Ayer titled ‘Suicide Squad.‘ So far, the cast includes Will Smith as Deadshot, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevingne as the Enchantress, Tom Hardy as Rick Flagg, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, and Jared Leto as the Joker. But there’s still an important member of the team left to be determined: boss lady Amanda Waller. So who’s in the running to play the government agent in charge of the villain-turned-hero team? Recent reports tell us that DC & WB are aiming pretty high.

Whenever Amanda Waller has appeared in film and television in recent years in such projects as ‘Green Lantern’ and ‘Arrow,’ she has been slimmed down in order to jive with her New 52 appearance. This change came with a considerable amount of criticism in both cases, but it looks like we’re going back to the way long-time comic fans, as well as fans of the ‘Justice League’ animated series, will remember the intimidating, business suit-adorned authority figure known as The Wall. According to Variety, the current shortlist of actresses for the role include Octavia Spencer of ‘Snowpiercer’ and ‘The Help’, ‘How To Get Away With Murder’ star Viola Davis, and daytime television icon Oprah Winfrey, who currently happens to be the studio favorite for the role.

While the currently assembled trio of actresses is certainly excellent picks, I’m a little disappointed that CCH Pounder isn’t being considered for the part. After all, she has been the voice of Amanda Waller in the DC Animated Universe and in the massively popular Batman Arkham games for about a decade. However, just as I had to when Mark Hamill was replaced as the Joker, I’m sure that I’ll get over it.

What do you think about the actresses in line for the role of Amanda Waller in ‘Suicide Squad’? Do you have a favorite out of the three? Is there anyone that you wish were included on the list? Let us know in the comments below.
