A second Captain America film was always expected after the success of last summer’s ‘Captain American: The First Avenger’ and the furor surrounding this year’s ‘The Avengers.’ But Marvel Zombies may get another treat in the form of a Nick Fury or S.H.I.E.L.D. film.

Neil McDonough, who played Dum Dum Dugan in ‘Captain America’ has more or less confirmed what we knew already. A second Cap film will follow the planned Thor sequel and the third Iron Man installment next year. However, the actor also told IMDB Television, Hopefully right after that, we’ll jump into Nick Fury because that’s the one I’m looking forward to more than anything … it’ll be me and Sam Jackson. In the real Marvel universe, Dum Dum Dugan is Nick Fury’s right hand man.

Although supporting actors are often off-base in their predictions (as we’ve seen with recent rumors that Spider-Man had a trailer on ‘The Avengers’ set), this reinforces earlier rumors regarding Marvel’s post-‘Avengers’ plans. In the comic continuity, Nick Fury was a veteran of WWII who went on to be director of the secretive and not always above-board S.H.I.E.L.D. In the film continuity, which is much closer to that of Marvel’s “Ultimate” line of comics, Fury seems to be a normal human being who is middle aged in the contemporary stories of the recent films such as ‘Iron Man.’

This continuity would fit nicely into McDonough’s stated hopes for a Nick Fury solo film. The actor said, “I just pray that they have a 1970s setting, because I want to see Sam Jackson with lambchops kicking people’s asses for (the) Marvel universe. It would just be awesome. And to work with Sam would be a treat.”
