Grab a Wookie and head over to the Sun Light Stadium because on Tuesday, September 20th, the Marlins will host a Star Wars Night to benefit Stand Up to Cancer!
Fans are encouraged to dress up as their favorite Star Wars persona and join in a pregame party at the Fan Headquarters where they can take pictures with costumed Star Wars characters, enjoy entertainment provided by Marlin’s own DJ Petey and get a chance to win Star Wars themed prizes such as Star Wars Thermos FUNtainers, Lego Star Wars mini figures, and Clic Time Darth Vader, Storm Trooper or Yoda alarm clocks. The night continues with the soon to be renamed Miami Marlins playing against the Atlanta Braves. But the fun doesn’t stop there! Throughout the game, tweet your seat number to @Marlins for a chance to win additional Star Wars merchandise.
Tickets for this night are only available online at marlins.com/starwars and start at $10. The $10 ticket (also known as the Han Solo ticket) includes access to the pregame party and a seat in a special Star Wars infield box section. For $20 you get the Jedi VIP pack which not only gets you into the pregame party and a seat in the infield Star Wars box section, but you will also receive a special Star Wars Stand Up to Cancer t-shirt.
Stand up to Cancer is a charity that was established by media, entertainment and philanthropic leaders who have been affected by cancer. It was created to raise funds to accelerate groundbreaking cancer research that will bring new therapies to patients quickly and saves lives. Their goal is to bring together the best and brightest minds in the cancer community and encourage collaboration in fighting this disease. The MLB is a principle donor to this organization. $1 of every Han Solo ticket and $2 of every Jedi VIP pack will be donated to Stand Up to Cancer. I’ll be there with my family as my wife’s grandmother passed away from colon cancer 15 years ago. Needless to say this a very special cause for us.
If you are not local to the area and can not attend the Marlins event, check with the MLB team in your area as other select teams are getting in on the action and holding events at their own stadiums. Keep in mind there are still ways to give to this wonderful charity if you can’t attend an event at any stadium. There will be an eBay auction running from September 16th-23rd, 2011. This auction will have amazing items to bid on like a one-of-a-kind Star Wars edition 2012 Volkswagen Passat, dinner with George Lucas and countless other amazing items. You can view them at ebay.com/usetheforceforgood. If those aren’t enough ways to contribute, you can also buy specially made t-shirts in honor of SU2C at store.standup2cancer.org/shop.
This event, co-sponsored by LucasFilm Ltd., will also commemorate the release of ‘Star Wars: The Complete Saga’ on Blu-ray. So channel the Force and make sure you don’t miss this special event!
