Just when you thought your day couldn’t possibly get any better, we’re back with an all new Toy News Tuesday! We’re the one weekly column right here on ScienceFiction.com where we seek out all of the awesome news you need to know about any announcements and cool happenings in the toy industry and put them all in one easy to find place for you! Another week, another slew of awesome new information on some of the coolest new collectibles from some of our favorite companies! We’re arriving just as the dust settles from a big weekend at C2E2 in Chicago, so there are a few awesome new items being shown off from the teams at DC Collectibles, Hot Toys, NECA, and more! There’s plenty to see in the toy news for the week of April 10th, 2018!

Mattel Delves Into The Past For New DC Multiverse

We’re going to have to ask you to take this whole first segment with a giant mound of salt because literally nothing in it has been officially confirmed (even if it’s got us very excited)! Thanks to a Delaware toy store named ‘They’re Action Figures‘ we have a look at what appears to be a whole new wave of 6″ scale DC Multiverse figures from Mattel! The entire wave looks to be one hell of a throwback to some fan favorite looks and characters!

The leaked images are super blurry, but the wave looks to be made of Green Lantern Kyle Rayner (First Appearance look), Impulse, Superman (Kingdom Come), Batman Beyond, Catwoman, and Lobo! No word on who the Collect-And-Connect figure will be, but with the size and scale of other recent Collect-And-Connects it would not be surprising if Lobo was secretly it.

As always, we will keep you posted on these as more information becomes available.

The Claws Are Out!

This past weekend at C2E2, our friends at DC Collectibles revealed an all-new addition to their long running DC Cover Girls Statue line! The latest heroine to join the line is none other than the felonious feline Catwoman! The statue stands around 9″ tall and is designed by Joëlle Jones. Preorders should begin next week on the 16th, with a release planned for November at $125. Check out the full details from DC Collectibles below!

Eisner-nominated artist Joëlle Jones announced today during the DC Universe panel at C2E2, that the mischievous Catwoman will be the next DC character to star in the acclaimed artist’s DC Cover Girls statue line by DC Collectibles. Hitting stores in November 2018, the stunning 9’’ statue features Gotham’s City’s most devious cat perched on a locked safe, flashing her signature sly grin. Jones’ intricate character design will be brought to life in 3-D form by sculptor Jack Mathews and will be offered at an MSRP of $125.00.

Created in 2009, the DC Cover Girls statue line by DC Collectibles is inspired by the powerful women of the DC universe and has featured designs from many of the most talented artists in the comics industry including Adam Hughes and Stanley Lau. Joëlle Jones is the first female designer to take over the line and her collection of statues launched in March 2018 with the release of her unique take on Harley Quinn. Other DC characters receiving the Joëlle Jones Cover Girls treatment this year are Supergirl and Batgirl, slated to release in April and August (respectively).

The DC Cover Girls Catwoman statue by Joëlle Jones will be available for pre-order everywhere comics are sold on April 16.

“I Like That Wookie”

Figures for the newest film in the ‘Star Wars’ series, ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story‘, are starting to hit stores this week! That’s likely why Hasbro has suddenly pulled back to curtain to announce two more figures that will be coming to the new line several weeks after most of the toyline leaked. The two new figures fans can keep an eye out for in the ‘Star Wars: Black Series’ ‘Solo’ Wave are new versions of Chewbacca and a Mimban Stormtrooper! Check out our first look at these new figures below!

More Marvel Legends Join The Fray

With a movie as big as ‘Avengers: Infinity War‘ heading to theaters in just a few weeks, I think it’d be much more surprising if we didn’t get a look at some more upcoming figures in Hasbro’s 6″ scale Marvel Legends line. These figures were all previously announced during Toy Fair, but now Hasbro has released a number of high def images of the upcoming second wave of figures for their ‘Infinity War’ line.

The wave is comprised of ‘Infinity War’ versions of Black Widow and Thor, as well as figures of Antman and The Wasp from their own upcoming film (aptly titled ‘Antman & The Wasp’), plus comic styled figures of Black Knight and Malekith! If you collect the entire wave you can build your own figure of Cull Obsidian from ‘Infinity War’! These are due out this summer.

Along Came A Spider

We’re sure you’re getting at least a little bit tired of hearing about how Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ hits theaters in just a few weeks, but as it’s one of the largest and most ambitious films ever even attempted to be made, you’re probably just going to have to get used to it. The team at Hot Toys certainly has, as this week they have rolled out our first look at yet another beautifully crafted new 1:6th scale figure from their ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ line with Black Widow! This newly updated version of Black Widow comes packed with disc shooters, short batons, a long baton, a ton of alternative parts, a special display stand and more! Check out the full release from Hot Toys below!

Just Hope No One Feeds Him After Midnight

Earlier this year at New York Toy Fair 2018 the team at NECA debuted the newest figure in their ‘Ultimate’ line with the new ‘Ultimate Gremlin’! This was exciting enough news, but the bigger news was that they mentioned that they may have something else up their sleeve to excite ‘Gremlins’ fans that’s coming not long after the ‘Ultimate Gremlin’, and now we know just what it is! This week NECA posted two teaser images to their Twitter Account that show off an all-new figure, ‘Ultimate Gremlin Stripe’!

Stripe is the de-facto “leader” of the evil Gremlins in the first ‘Gremlins’ film, and as such he has a rather distinct look. Stripe’s face is a bit more defined, and he features an iconic mo-hawk haircut (while most Gremlins have no hair at all past their Mogwai phase). While the prototype seen in these photos is missing the mohawk, that headsculpt is entirely unmistakable. There is currently no word as to when we can expect this figure to hit the market, but our best guess is either much later in the year, or possibly early 2019.

The Funko Forecast

Get ready for the Funko Forecast! This is where we’re going to be showcasing all of the cool new announcements and reveals from Funko! With all of the awesome that consistently seems to be flowing out of those guys, it shouldn’t be hard to keep this section alive each and every week!

New Previews Exclusives

This week the team at Funko unveiled two new Previews exclusive POP! Vinyls that are sure to have collectors excited! Coming to comic shops and specialty stores soon will be Death from DC Comics iconic ‘Sandman’ series, as well as Pickle Rick from the popular ‘Rick And Morty’ animated series. Both of these characters are fan favorites, although it’s a bit odd to see us get Death before we get Sandman himself. Still, these two should prove quick sellers when they release in stores this June!

Summertime Specialty Series

In a surprising move, this week we have two new reveals for Funko’s small retailer Specialty Series line! We normally get two new additions to this line per month, but it looks like these two are being added with a vague ‘this summer’ release date rather than a specific monthly window. It’s also worth noting that normally we get one POP! Vinyl and one figure from another line, but the last set announced was two POP! Vinyls, and this time around it’s two figures (technically three) from Funko’s non-POP! lines. Maybe this is the make up the difference? Either way, this summer you can look forward to finding a ‘Police Rick & Morty’ Dorbz 2-pack and an Evil Lyn Rock Candy figure at your favorite local comic shop or specialty store!

Flying Solo

We keep going on about the new Marvel movies, so it’s almost easy to forget that we are also only a few weeks away from the latest ‘Star Wars’ film with ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ coming to theaters in May! The team at Funko just announced their entire lineup for the film which includes a huge selection of POP! Vinyls (including a number of retailer exclusives), Dorbz, Mystery Minis, Mystery Plushies, Tee Shirts, and Wacky Wobblers! You can check out the entirety of the announced product line for ‘Solo’ from Funko below!
