The British are coming and in this case it’s in the form of director Julian Gilbey. Gilbey, a rising filmmaker in his own right, has been signed on to direct the new sci-fi thriller ‘Offworld’ produced by Lloyd Levin.
In interview with Empire, Levin describes ‘Offworld’ as “…a kind of an intergalactic ‘Naked ‘Prey…a pedal to the medal safari movie set on an alien planet. There’s lots of nasty creatures – some even on the good guys’ side.”
This will be Gilbey’s first foray into directing a Hollywood movie but he should be in good hands with producer Levin. After all, Levin has worked with such successful industry people such as screenwriter Guillermo Del Toro (‘The Hobbit’, ‘Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark’) and director Paul Greengrass (‘The Bourne Ultimatum’, ‘The Bourne Supremacy’). So why Gilbey? Apparently, Levin was so impressed with his mountaineer thriller, ‘A Lonely Place to Die’, that he thought him perfect to direct the movie. He’s also being touted as the next big director in the same vein as Duncan Jones (‘Source Code’) and Rupert Wyatt (‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’).
‘Offworld’ will be penned by David Leslie Johnson who also wrote the screenplay to the horror film ‘Orphan’ and ‘Red Riding Hood’. He is currently writing episodes of AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead.’
Since the movie is still in pre-production, not much more is known (though it does sound promising). Make sure you keep checking back here because once we find out, we’ll let you know!
