Emmy Award-winning Jon Cryer (‘Two and a Half Men’) will be playing Lex Luthor on The CW’s ‘Supergirl‘ and they’ve just released our first look at his character. For anyone who has been following the story so far, it is well known that Luthor is currently in prison so it should surprise no one that this initial shot has him locked up.
The episode synopsis even includes a bit of details of how we’ll see Superman’s villain introduced as “Lex Luthor reaches out from prison to enlist Lena (Katie McGrath) into one of his plans and will stop at nothing to get her on board, even if that means leveraging the life of one of her friends.” Trying to get his sister to help him is no surprise, and you have to wonder if his mother Lillian or any resources from the renamed L-Corp will be used to help set him free.

The episode of his premiere is titled “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” and this could have multiple meanings. It could refer to a prison break for the evil mastermind, be a callout to his sister, or a combination of the two.
Interestingly enough, this isn’t the first time which Cryer has played the part of a Luthor. In the 1987 release of ‘Superman IV: The Quest for Peace,’ he played Lenny Luthor, Lex’s nephew. His job there was to help get his uncle out of jail and become his assistant.
What do you think of our first shot of Jon Cryer as Lex Luthor? Are you thrilled that ‘Supergirl’ is going to be introducing the villain? Do you think this will end up causing another cameo from Tyler Hoechlin as Superman? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
