In the opening scene of ‘Overlord’, the soldiers, headed by Jovan Adepo’s Boyce, experience a realistic horror– the horrors of war. As this squad flies over enemy territory during D-Day in World War II, they find their plane taking fire before they ultimately have no choice but to parachute out, as their fiery craft careens toward the Earth.
While the film later veers into more traditional horror territory with horrifying creatures attacking the survivors, this sequence cranks up the tension and sets the mood for the rest of the film.

‘Overlord’ was directed by Julius Avery, who has been tapped to direct 20th Century Fox’s reboot of ‘Flash Gordon’. ‘Overlord’ is gaining raves from horror purists. Despite its relatively low budget, it delivers the frights and gore. As one reviewer called it, “This is a big, loud, violent, gleefully gory sledgehammer of a film with, crucially, a careful tongue in cheek.” (Demetrios Matheou, Screen Daily) The film was executive produced by J.J. Abrams.

American paratroopers drop behind enemy lines to penetrate the walls of a fortified church and destroy a radio transmitter. As the soldiers approach their target, they soon begin to realize that there’s more going on in the Nazi-occupied village than a simple military operation. Making their way to an underground lab, the outnumbered men stumble upon a sinister experiment that forces them into a vicious battle against an army of the undead.
The cast is composed of many up-and-comers. Adepo starred on the Facebook Watch series ‘Sorry For Your Loss’ alongside Elizabeth Olsen and Kelly Marie Tran. He will also star in Ave DuVernay’s Netflix miniseries ‘The Central Park Five’ based on a true story, which will be released in 2019. He will also join the cast of Amazon’s ‘Jack Ryan’ series next year.
His costar Wyatt Russell stars in the AMC series ‘Lodge 49’ which has been renewed for a second season and will appear in next year’s ‘The Woman in the Window’ with Amy Adams and Gary Oldman. Another co-star, Pilou Asbæk portrayed Euron Greyjoy on ‘Game of Thrones’ and will next appear in another military themes film, ‘Project X-traction’ staring Jackie Chan and John Cena.
‘Overlord’ will be available to terrify you in just days, arriving in theaters on November 9.
