Castlevania

Fans have been clamoring for more of ‘Castlevania’ and with rumors of producer Adi Shankar about to pick up ‘The Legend of Zelda‘ it wasn’t clear what direction the series could be heading in. Thankfully, Netflix has now confirmed that we’ll not only be getting a third season of this epic series but that it’ll get an extended episode count as well! The animated series is an adaptation of the classic 1989 game ‘Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse’ which still resonates with fans today and the success of the anime has proven just how much we all love the concept behind the series.

On the show, Trevor Belmont (Richard Armitage) works to save Eastern Europe from the clutches of Dracula (Graham McTavish). The show kicked off in 2017 with only four episodes which were extended to eight for the second season. Going forward, it was announced that the third season of ‘Castlevania’ will get a 10-episode run. At this time there hasn’t been a release date announced, but back in June, Armitage had hinted they would soon begin recording episodes for a third season if it was picked up again, so that is likely already in production.

With so many video game adaptations failing at the box office, ‘Castlevania’ seems to be proving that taking the concept to the small screen and having time to flesh out the characters seems to be the way to go. We’ll see if that trend continues with other properties going forward or if live-action adaptations of ‘Pokemon’ and ‘Sonic the Hedgehog‘ will prove that other models can work as well.

Are you thrilled that ‘Castlevania’ has been picked up for a third season? Do you feel that the creators have found their stride and will be able to tackle increasingly longer runs moving forward? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
