Kate Hudson and Craig Robinson have signed on to star in the third feature from writer/director Ana Lily Amirpour, entitled ‘Blood Moon’.  Amirpour made a splash with her first film, ‘A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night’, an Iranian vampire movie with western-influences, which was awarded with numerous prizes at various film festivals.  She followed that picture with ‘The Bad Batch’, a dystopian cannibal thriller which won the Grand Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival.  She has since honed her craft on television, directing episodes of ‘Legion’, ‘Castle Rock’ and the upcoming ‘Briarpatch’.

This movie will film and be set in New Orleans, and is reported to draw inspiration from “fantasy-adventure movies of the 1980s and ’90s.”  It’s not clear WHICH movies, but that may give a vague idea of what to expect.  ‘Blood Moon’ is said to alternate between “strange, violent, and humorous.”  It is also expected to contain an eclectic mix of music that ranges from “heavy metal to Italian techno.”

It is additionally described:

“At its center is a girl with strange and dangerous abilities who escapes from a mental asylum and rejoins the chaos of modern-day civilization, on the hedonistic streets of the French Quarter.”

Zac Efron is reportedly in talks to join the cast.  John Lesher (‘Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)’) is attached to produce.  As Lesher expressed:

“Lily’s unique vision and poetic style sets her apart from the pack. She is truly one of the most exciting filmmakers working today.”

While ‘A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night’ starred a cast of unknown Iranian actors, Amirpour attracted an all-star roster for her second movie ‘The Bad Batch’, which included Suki Waterhouse, Jason Momoa, Jim Carrey, Keanu Reeves, and Giovanni Ribisi.
