Wonder Woman 1984

The rumor that just won’t die has now extended its grubby paws to Wonder Woman, or rather ‘Wonder Woman 1984’, the upcoming sequel directed by Patty Jenkins, starring Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Pedro Pascal and Kristen Wiig.  The film was recently bumped back from Nov. 1, 2019 to June 5, 2020.  The story could have ended there, with just a little speculation about the reason, which is most likely the fact that a big superhero movie is probably a better fit for a summer release than winter.

But no, dammit.  A rumor has surfaced, conveyed via Grace Randolph from Beyond The Trailer, who states that the reason for the delay is so that Warner Brothers can use ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ to reboot the DC film Universe and introduce new actors in the roles of Batman and Superman.

What do Batman or Superman have to do with a ‘Wonder Woman’ period piece set 30 years before either debuted?  Neither was in the first ‘Wonder Woman’.  Why do they need to be in the sequel?

And at this point, does anyone care?!  Just stop making ‘Superman’ and ‘Batman’ movies.  ‘Justice League’ bombed, so there’s no need for a sequel there.  And no one cares about the allusions to Darkseid or any other impending events that have been foreshadowed.  Just let those characters rest and start again later.

During her report, Randolph said:

“Significant reshoots are coming. I am hearing that the movie is going to be reworked and become Wonder Woman 1984: Flashpoint. I don’t know if its going to be called that – but that’s essentially what it is. Which means the upcoming Flash movie is just a regular Flash movie.”

Well, the ‘Flash’ movie was already known to be “just a regular Flash movie.”  It was rumored in May that the ‘Flashpoint’ idea was being scrapped and that Ezra Miller‘s movie would simply be solo flick based on his character.  And all reports since then, have referred to it as such.

‘Wonder Woman’ was a huge smash.  Just let the sequel be a ‘Wonder Woman’ sequel and leave it at that.  If it’s been delayed, okay.  Just make it the best ‘Wonder Woman’ sequel it can be.

Agree?  Disagree?
