Ezra Miller The Flash

Take this with a grain of salt, as it’s just a RUMOR at this point, but reportedly Ezra Miller’s Flash will be taking on an unexpected (and grotesque) face in his solo movie– Double Down.  You really have to be a devoted reader of ‘The Flash’ comic books to know who that is, but to sum him up, he is Jeremy Tell a low-level criminal, but after losing all of his money in a high stakes game of cards, he killed the winner.  Then a deck of cursed playing cards bonded to his skin.  Tell can peel the cards off, but that also takes his flesh off as well.  When thrown, the cards can slice through almost everything.

J.R. Bourne played Double Down on ‘Arrow’ and ‘The Flash’, but Warner Brothers is said to be eyeing Walton Goggins for the role in the movies.  Double Down is a pretty obscure character, so it’s a little surprising that Warner Brothers isn’t going with a more famous foe like Captain Boomerang (played by Jai Courtney in ‘Suicide Squad’), or film versions of Captain Cold, Reverse Flash/Zoom or Gorilla Grodd.  Perhaps the reason for that is that these villains have already been extensively used in the “Arrowverse” on TV, so perhaps they want a lesser known antagonist for the film.

In March, John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein (‘Game Night’) signed on to direct.   There have been multiple screenplays for ‘The Flash’ by many writers, including a version that adapted the comic book story ‘Flashpoint’ which would have been a larger crossover film and would have included Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Thomas Wayne/Batman, and would have rebooted the DC film universe after ‘Batman V Superman’, ‘Suicide Squad’ and ‘Justice League’ disappointed at the box office.  But now it appears that Daley and Goldstein have ditched that idea and ‘The Flash’ will once more be a solo movie.

As for the actor that is being considered, just this year, Goggins has already appeared in ‘Maze Runner: the Death Cure’ and ‘Tomb Raider’ and will also be seen in ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’.  He can also currently be seen on the second season of the History Channel’s series ‘Six’.  An in-demand character actor, Goggins has also been featured in movies such as ‘The Hateful Eight’, ‘Django Unchained’ and ‘Cowboys & Aliens’ and on TV series such as ‘The Shield’, ‘Sons of Anarchy’, ‘Justified’ and ‘Vice Principals’.

Are you glad that ‘The Flash’ is once again a solo movie?  How do you feel about Double Down as the villain?
