‘Lord of the Rings’ actor Craig Parker has been added to the cast of ‘Charmed’ as a potentially villainous CEO who might even have some demonic ties.

Parker will play Alastair Caine, the CEO of Morningstar Biotech and a benefactor of the Hilltowne University laboratory, which happens to be where Macy (Mantock) works. A charismatic businessman, Alastair will wreak a bit of havoc in the girls’ magical and personal lives.

Morningstar is, of course, a name associated with Satan or “Lucifer Morningstar.”  Alastair was also the name of a demon that plagued the sisters of the original ‘Charmed’.  This villain appeared in the Season Four episode “Brain Drain” but it’s not clear if Parker’s character is the same or even has any connection to that one.

The new version of ‘Charmed’ updates the original series which ran from 1998-2006.  Melonie Diaz, Sarah Jeffrey and Madelaine Mantock headline this cast as a trio of sisters, Mel (Diaz), Maggie (Jeffrey) and their recently discovered half-sister Macy (Mantock), whose lives are turned upside down.  Not only does their mother die under mysterious circumstances, but Macy discovers her new family and all three girls discover that they are the Charmed Ones, the latest in a line of powerful witches who must use their abilities to battle the forces of evil.  Luckily, they have a guide in the form of college professor Harry Greenwood, played by Rupert Evans.

Parker hails from New Zealand and as such got his star on Kiwi projects like ‘Lord of the Rings’ (he played Haldir), ‘Xena: Warrior Princess’, ‘Young Hercules’ and even ‘Power Rangers: Ninja Storm’ (he voiced Motodrone, Mad Magnet and Blue Face).  He later had lengthy roles on ‘Legend of the Seeker’, ‘Spartacus: War of the Damned’ and most recently ‘Reign’.

‘Charmed’ makes its premiere on The CW on Sunday, Oct October 14 at 9pm EST.
