‘The Man in the High Castle’‘s Rupert Evans has joined the cast of The CW’s reboot of ‘Charmed’.  His character is described as “Harry, a professor, handsome, grandiose, a raconteur with an infuriating charm and a mysterious interest in the three sisters.”

It sounds as though the series has found its new Whitelighter.  On the original series, Brian Krause played the Halliwell sisters’ Whitelighter, Leo Wyatt– basically their guardian angel.  He also became the boyfriend of Piper Halliwell, the middle sister, played by Holly Marie Combs.

It’s unclear how Harry will fit in on a personal level.  Two of the three female leads have romantic interests.  Mel Pruitt (played by Melonie Diaz) has a girlfriend Detective Soo Jin (un-cast).  Macy (also uncast), who may or may not be a Pruitt sister, has a boyfriend named Galvin (Ser’Darius Blain).  The third female lead, Madison (Sarah Jeffrey) is a teenage college student.  I mean she could become romantically involved with one of her professors, but… that’s kinda been done.

Season Three of Amazon’s ‘The Man in the High Castle’ has wrapped but not premiered.  The CW has only ordered a pilot for ‘Charmed’, but should it get ordered to series, it’s unclear how that will impact Evans’ involvement with ‘The Man in the High Castle’.  (Evans is the male lead on the series, with the delightful name Frank Frink.)  Orrrrr… does this imply that… he is no longer needed on the Amazon series?

Evans may also be known for the horror film ‘The Boy’ and previous TV series like ‘The Village’ and ‘Rogue’.  He has worked extensively in television and film in his native United Kingdom.

The new ‘Charmed’ is executive produced by ‘Jane the Virgin”s creator and showrunner Jennie Synder Urman, Jessica O’Toole, Amy Rardin and Brad Silberling.  O’Toole and Rardin are writing the ‘Charmed’ pilot, while Silberling will direct.  Snyder will also serve as showrunner should The CW order ‘Charmed’ to series.
