Kiana Madeira

Purists will likely be up in arms as we’ve just learned that Kiana Madeira (‘Sacred Lies,’ ‘Dark Matter’) is set to join ‘The Flash‘ on The CW as Spin. She’s signed on in a recurring role for the fifth season in a gender-swapped role as Spencer Young, better known as Spin. While a male in the comics, the producers decided switching things up would help for the ongoing Arrowverse.

‘The Flash’ will see this new take of Spender Young as a “young aspiring social media influencer who seizes the opportunity to make herself famous when she discovers there is a new hero in Central City.” Spin is going to make her debut appearance in episode #504.

At this time it isn’t clear if we’ll see Spin also having to go up against Chris Klein who is playing Cicada or just be a minor thorn in The Flash’s side.

Outside of Spin, here’s what we know about the upcoming season from the synopsis:

Matching wits with The Thinker, who by season’s end had harnessed the powers of all twelve bus metas he created, stretched Team Flash to their limits, but with the help of some new allies, Barry Allen (aka The Flash) and company were able to put a stop to the Enlightenment and save Central City once again. However, with the arrival of Barry and Iris’ speedster daughter, Nora, who arrived from the future admitting to having made a “big mistake,” things are anything but status quo. Will parenthood be the challenge that finally slows The Flash down?

Are you excited to see Kiana Madeira as Spin on ‘The Flash’? Do you feel that taking characters in creative new directions can be used for storytelling purposes or are you a stickler for an accurate portrayal of what you read in the comics? Share your thoughts below!

Season Five of ‘The Flash’ kicks off on Tuesday, October 9 at 8 pm EST.
