MTV Movie & TV Awards - Complete Winners List

The MTV Movie & TV Awards were handed out Monday night and ‘Black Panther’ slayed the competition, winning in almost every category in which it was nominated.  On the TV side, ‘Stranger Things’ once again proved how popular it is, especially among the younger crowd, who weren’t even alive during the time in which the Netflix series is set.  Tiffany Haddish, who broke out majorly in last year’s hit comedy ‘Girls Trip’, hosted the show which featured live performances by Nick Jonas & Mustard and Chloe x Hall.

Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan and Winston Duke were on hand to accept the Best Movie Award for ‘Black Panther’ which bested ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, ‘Girls Trip’, ‘It’ [‘Chapter One’] and ‘Wonder Woman’.  Jordan delivered the thank you speech, stating:

“It’s incredible when you — when the stereotype used to be people of color couldn’t bring y’all out to the theater and be able to make these types of films. And bring this type of impact to you guys. So the fact that we were able to do this on this scale, with this movie and this project, means the world to us. So we appreciate y’all support.  And it’s not just for, you know, people of color — it’s universal, it’s for everybody. So that’s something that I really want to get through to everybody.”

‘Black Panther’ also landed the awards for Best Performance In A Movie for Boseman, Best Hero for Boseman, and Best Villain for Jordan.  When Boseman went onstage to accept Best Hero, he brought up real-life hero James Shaw Jr., who tackled a gunman who opened fire at a Waffle House restaurant in Tennessee.

When Jordan accepted his Best Villain award, he joked “I’m shocked that I won this award for best villain.  You know, I thought for sure Roseanne had that in the bag, you know. Crazy.”

‘Stranger Things’ won Best Show, topping ’13 Reasons Why’, ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘grown-ish’ and ‘Riverdale’.  Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven) won Best Performance in a Show, while Noah Schnapp (Will Byers) won Most Frightened Performance.  In the Best Onscreen Team category, the ‘Stranger Things’ AV Club lost out to the group that partially inspired them in the first place, the Losers Club from ‘It: Chapter One’.

In other genre news, ‘Wonder Woman’ won Best Fight for the No Man’s Land sequence, Madelaine Petsch won Best Scene Stealer for her role as Cheryl Blossom on ‘Riverdale’, and ‘Ready Player One”s Lena Waithe was awarded the special Trailblazer Award.
