Chris Evans Captain America'
Whether its Spider-Man’s costume or the newly blonde Black Widow, plenty of characters are getting a new look for ‘Avengers: Infinity War’. But one of the most striking of all has to be Captain America’s. While his actual costume hasn’t changed all that much (new shield notwithstanding), he is now sporting a beard. And not just any beard. Captain America, after all, is not a man to do things by half-measures, so fittingly this is perhaps the most majestic beard the Marvel Cinematic Universe has seen to date.

But why give Cap a beard, anyway? Isn’t that a bit out of left field? Well, according to the star-spangled Avenger himself, Chris Evans, the beard isn’t just an arbitrary aesthetic choice. Rather, it’s a reflection of where the character finds himself at the start of the film. As Evans explained to USA Today:

“He’s such a monastic character and he has such a quotidian approach to his existence. I imagine when he wakes up in the morning, there is a routine. Part of that is his nature, part of that is just to keep his sanity, and that all kind of goes out the window a little bit after [‘Captain America: Civil War’]. You see a guy who doesn’t stop caring but just puts down some of that obligation.”

Directed by the Russo brothers from a script by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ marks the culmination of a decade-long effort by Marvel Studios and sees the Avengers team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy to take on Thanos. The film counts Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Holland, Karen Gillan, Paul Rudd, Chadwick Boseman, Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olson, Sebastian Stan, and three gentlemen named “Chris” among its gargantuan cast. The long-awaited movie is set to arrive in theaters on April 27, 2018.
