Part of the appeal of the ‘Avengers’ movies (or any team-up story, really) lies in the interactions between the characters involved. That chemistry can literally make or break a film. And if nothing else, a cast as large as that of ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ is sure to give us plenty of chemistry. But what are the highlights? That’s the sort of question that Marvel fans are sure to argue over for years to come, but among the filmmakers at least, there are already some clear favorites emerging.
Speaking to Screen Rant, ‘Infinity War’ co-directors Joe and Anthony Russo have revealed their favorite pairings of on-screen Avengers. For Joe Russo, it’s a combination we’ve seen come up before:
“I’ll say Strange and Stark. I like two narcissists. It’s like two Betta fish in a tank going at each other.”
Benedict Cumberbatch has also alluded to his character’s interplay with Tony Stark, suggesting that while the two genius snarkers will butt heads, with the Sorcerer Supreme ultimately emerging as the adult in the room. Anthony Russo’s pick, on the other hand, is less of a one-on-one and more of a group dynamic. And it’s one we’ve glimpsed in the trailers to boot:
“That’s a very tough question, but I might go with a combination of Thor and the Guardians. There’s an interesting dynamic that evolves between the two groups, and especially between Thor and Quill. That is a lot of fun.”
Directed by the Russo brothers from a script by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ marks the culmination of a decade-long effort by Marvel Studios and sees the Avengers team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy to take on Thanos. The film counts Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Holland, Karen Gillan, Paul Rudd, Chadwick Boseman, Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olson, Sebastian Stan, and three gentlemen named “Chris” among its gargantuan cast. The long-awaited movie is set to arrive in theaters on April 27, 2018.
