blade runner

‘Blade Runner 2049’ is one of the most highly anticipated movies of the fall. After all, it’s only arriving 35 years after Ridley Scott’s original sci fi flop-turned-classic.  1982’s ‘Blade Runner’ holds the distinction of being one of the most re-cut, re-edited movies of all time.  Apparently, since the theatrical version flopped, Warner Brothers let Scott redo it for TV… and VHS… and cable… and DVD… and… well you get it.

But with ‘2049’ arriving on October 6th, it makes perfect sense to re-release the original, this time in 4K ultra HD Blu-Ray.  This remastered version is Scott’s 2007 “Final Cut,” the version that he was ultimately happiest with, even though the ending remains as ambiguous as ever.

The new 4K technology takes one of the most stylish, visually-stunning movies of all time and cranks everything up to 11.  The vivid colors, contrasting with the techno-noir shadows have always been eye-popping, so the improvements should really dazzle.

(If this is set in 2019, we really need to get cracking on this whole artificial intelligence technology, folks.  Gross Japanese sex robots are just not cutting it.)
