Excitement is at an all-time high for the Marvel character of Spider-Man, who previously made his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in ‘Captain America: Civil War’ and will headline his own MCU outing in next month’s ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming.’  Beyond this, though, production company Sony (who owns the film rights to Spider-Man and his “universe” of associated characters) has announced plans to create “spin-off” films based on a slew of other characters, such as Silver Sable, Black Cat, and one of Spider-Man’s greatest foes, Venom.

The question is begged, then: with Spider-Man planting his roots in the MCU, will these other films follow suit?  It’s a burning questions that inquiring minds want to know, so it’s no surprise that Marvel big-wig and MCU Producer Kevin Feige was asked in a recent fan Q&A about the Venom film and its potential place in the MCU.  Feige made sure to give a clear and certain answer:

“For now, there is NO plan for Venom in the MCU. It’s a Sony Project.”

For the record, Feige was asked in the same Q&A about the possibility of an R-rated film ever existing in the MCU, along the veins of ‘Deadpool’ and ‘Logan’ (and possibly the ‘Venom’ film).  Feige was a little more open-ended on this one:

“Currently we don’t work on R-Rated movies, it’s not out of the question, but currently, no.”

What do you think, readers?  Would you be interested in seeing either Venom or an R-rated film – or both – in the MCU anytime soon?

The ‘Venom’ solo film is currently expected to be released in American theaters on October 5, 2018.
