It’s hard to single out a “highlight” character from the first ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’.  Director James Gunn deftly juggled a large ensemble cast and allowed them each to shine in their moments.  BUT one could definitely call Bradley Cooper’s Rocket, a crotchety anthropomorphic raccoon, a scene-stealer among scene-stealers.

The sequel ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ promises more of the same, but even much more!  Now, in two newly released clips from the film, Rocket shines once more.

His interaction with Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel) was another highlight from the first film, but that version was a monstrous giant tree.  He was seemingly killed and regenerated into a tiny, adorable sapling version, referred to now as Baby Groot.  It remains to be seen how Groot’s transformation will alter his role on the team (besides the fact that he will obviously no longer be “the muscle”) or the interaction between him and Rocket.  But we get a sample of that below in a comical clip called “Death Button.”

In the second clip, called ‘Sovereign Fleet’, we get a glimpse of Rocket’s prickly relationship with Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) as well as his penchant for being the Id in a group that is already less than altruistic.  It seems Rocket’s antics have gotten the crew into hot water again, but don’t worry.  He seems capable of getting them right back out… hopefully.

Director James Gunn was recently confirmed his return for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ which is rumored to see the team dismantled.  The Guardians, minus Gunn, are next slated to appear in next year’s ‘Avengers: Infinity War’.

‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2′ directed by James Gunn, starring Chris Pratt, Zoë Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Michael Rooker, Sean Gunn, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, with Kurt Russell, Sylvester Stallone and Glenn Close and the voices of Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper takes off on May 5, 2017.
