We’ve gone from Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton being in the next season of ‘American Horror Story‘, to not being in it, to now being in it again. Ryan Murphy has officially said that the two politicians would be portrayed in the series as it begins “on the night of the 2016 presidential election” but that it would diverge shortly after. The plan is to have the election be a springboard for the season but the season won’t focus on the two.

According to Murphy:

“I think people literally think Sarah Paulson is playing Hillary Clinton and I wanted to clarify that that is not true. Horror Story is always about allegory, so the election is allegory. It’s our jumping off point. It is about the election we just went through and what happened on that night and the fallout of that night, which to many people, from all sides of the camps is a horror story. And you know, that show is always so fun when it’s about the zeitgeist and what we’re doing now.”

This isn’t the first time that Murphy has referred to allegory and this time it is the election itself which will be the focus. Not, apparently, the two most controversial candidates in modern history.

They’re still working on writing the script at this time so don’t expect to hear casting announcements for Trump or Clinton anytime soon, not that Murphy ever tends to be that open about a season before it kicks off:

“No, not yet. We’re halfway through the writing and not yet. But it’s really, really fun. It starts on election night is all I’ll say…It’s very scary that night for many people. It’s fun, you will like it. It’s really a season that will have a lot of people interested and I think there’s something for everybody in that season.”

We know that Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson have both been tapped as leads for the series, but no other casting has been announced at this time. While many fans are hoping to see Lady Gaga come back for another go, she is also busy with her music career and remaking ‘A Star Is Born’ with Bradley Cooper so that might not be too feasible.

Previously, Murphy had mentioned that the upcoming season would have a return of characters from ‘American: Freak Show’ though we’re not sure if that is still the case here.

Are you looking forward to the seventh season of ‘American Horror Story’? What direction do you think we’ll see Murphy take the cast and crew after election night? Will he cast AHS Alums as Trump and Clinton or will we have some new faces pop in? While I’d love to see, Alec Baldwin tapped for the role let’s hear your thoughts on it below!
