friday-the-13th-animated

It looks like the ‘Friday the 13th‘ reboot is going to be returning to its roots as the original film had the mother of Jason Vorhees be the killer and rumors are swirling that the new film will have a young Jason in it. Now, take this with a grain of salt as we don’t know if they are going to be giving us a full retelling of the story or have it just be part of the film.

It should be clear that this was coming as the original synopsis which was released is as follows:

“The 13th installment in the iconic franchise. Although the specific logline is being kept under wraps, this version is a unique retelling of the origin story.”

Now, new casting information has apparently popped up on Project Casting with the following details:

Male, Caucasian, 12 years old ONLY SEEKING IDENTICAL TWINS W/ TV AND FILM CREDITS. MUST BE UNDER 5 FOOT. NO EXCEPTIONS. Lengthy and awkward. A dark, ominous child, who has severe psychological issues. Must have a very electric and expressive face (you will be painting the scene with your facial expressions), as this role does not speak. YOUNG JASON will grow into the pyscho-killer JASON. SUPPORTING ROLE. MUST BE ATLANTA BASED.

This is a listed as a supporting role so it doesn’t sound as if we’ll see much of a young Jason in the film. The original movie only had him popping up at the water for a kill at the very end so it is hard to tell if they’ll be following that route, having him in flashbacks, or something else entirely.

With the movie last being set to be released on October 13th, 2017 that won’t give much production time as filming is set to begin on March 19th, 2017.

If this doesn’t end up being a reboot we might find out what happened to Jason between the first two ‘Friday the 13th’ films.

How do you think they’ll be tackling the use of a Young Jason in the upcoming film? Will we have a full on Jason slasher or will it focus more on his mother if they are retelling his origin story? Share your thoughts below!
