‘Arrow’ returns to The CW for its fifth season next week, and in anticipation, star Stephen Amell has released the latest extended trailer.  As has already been announced, Season Five will bear a closer resemblance to Season One than the supernaturally-drenched Season Four, with a return of a more brutal vigilante take on Oliver Queen and company.

And speaking of “company,” Oliver must assemble a new Team Arrow after Thea (Willa Holland) has hung up her Speedy hood and Diggle (David Ramsey) reenlisted in the military.  (Although, as seen in this clip, Speedy’s retirement may be short-lived.)

In their place, three new allies arise, including Curtis Holt (Echo Kellum) who came aboard last season.  The character is loosely based on the DC superhero Mister Terrific/Michael Holt, a jack-of-all-trades type character who is both a perfect physical specimen and Olympic Gold Medalist and an inventive genius who uses various high tech gadgets to fight crime.  But so far, on ‘Arrow’, Curtis Holt has been used as more of a comic relief-type character although his know-how has proven valuable.  But, it looks as though Curtis will still be the source of some chuckles, judging by how difficult it seems the transition from tech consultant to actual adventurer won’t be smooth.

Brand new characters include Evelyn Sharpe/Artemis (Madison McLaughlin) and Wild Dog (Rick Gonzalez), both of whom are also heavily featured in the trailer.  Also spotlighted is this season’s new Big Bad, Tobias Church, played by ‘The Walking Dead”s Chad L. Coleman.

Check out the new TV spot below:

Also joining the fireworks this season are Josh Segarra as Adrian Chase/Vigilante, Joe Dinicol as Rory Regan/Ragman, Wil Traval as Christopher Chance/The Human Target.  Dolph Lundgren will also appear in flashbacks as a Russian mafioso.

After Laurel’s death and the departures of both Diggle and Thea from Team Arrow, Oliver takes to the streets solo to protect Star City’s citizens as the Green Arrow. With Felicity guiding him from the bunker, Oliver is forced to deal with a city that has become overrun with both criminals and a slew of new (and painfully inexperienced) vigilantes. Watching Oliver try to balance his jobs as both the mayor and also the protector of Star City, Felicity suggests he form a new team, but Oliver resists. However, when a deadly new criminal, Tobias Church (guest star Chad L. Coleman), enters the picture, Oliver realizes the best thing for the city might be a new team of superheroes. Meanwhile, the flashbacks take us to Russia where Oliver faces off against the Bratva.
