With how Season 10 of ‘The X-Files‘ came to a close we’ve all been expecting another go, and it looks like there are “significant talks” happening on bringing an eleventh season to light. The only problem though is that if talks are just now underway that production might not begin in time for a 2017 release of another season. Currently, Chris Carter, David Duchovny, and Gillian Anderson are all working with Fox on sorting out a deal to move forward with the series.
This was all revealed at the Television Critics Association summer press tour from Fox entertainment president David Madden:
“We would obviously love to do another season [but] schedules are hard. We’re working hard to get this done.”
This must be a recent development as Anderson stated last month that she hadn’t been approached for another season:
“I’m open to the conversation, though they haven’t come to us yet. I have no clue when they’re going to. I’m getting on with the rest of my life and I’m booking other jobs, so if it is indeed something that they would like to continue, then that conversation will need to be had. And I have no idea when that will be able to take place at this juncture.”
This really is a concern on timing as we know that Anderson has recently joined the cast of the ongoing adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s ‘American Gods‘ though Duchovny’s schedule is mostly open at this point with his last work being a stint on the upcoming ‘Twin Peaks’ revival.
Fox chairman and CEO Dana Walden discussed how parts of the six episode Season 10 run may have felt rushed:
“The show was off the air for a very long time, and was introduced to a variety of new viewers [via online platforms]… They had a challenge of filling in the mythology and explaining where the characters were and how they got to where they are now. I think going forward there won’t be the same obligation to reset the series.”
These are all good points and even if the next season ended up being a short one, they wouldn’t have to be filling in so many blanks as to what has been going on through the years.
