X-Files David Duchovy Gillian Anderson

When your favorite show goes off the air, you get sad.  When it comes back on the air after almost 15 years, you get excited again!  When the new “season” is only six episodes long and is met with mixed results, you don’t know quite how to feel.  Such is the saga of ‘The X-Files,’ resurrected by Fox earlier this year, previously gone off the airwaves after its original nine-season run starting back in 1993.  The show’s future after the abbreviated revival seemed uncertain, but new information recently shared seems to support fans’ hopes that the show will indeed be back for more.

Fox CEO and chairman Dana Walden recently held a conference call to speak with the press about the channel’s upcoming 2016-17 season and schedule; ‘The X-Files’ is obviously not on the upcoming docket, but Walden did field questions about the show.  She coyly said that there have been “conversations” about more X, both with series creator Chris Carter and stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, and she went on to elaborate:

“I believe everyone is on board to do another installment of the show.  Hopefully, this time next year we will have more news.”

So, the 2017-18 schedule may be the target as Fox will likely want to strike while the iron is as hot as possible on the show’s existing buzz.  Earlier this year, Carter was asked in a separate interview about the future of ‘The X-Files,’ and here is what he had to say on the matter:

“I can’t imagine, with the ratings that we’ve got and the way we ended this season, that there won’t be more X-Files.  They will find a way to get that done. Because I spoke about it briefly with Dana Walden… so there’s an appetite there and… a chance certainly to find how we’re gonna get ourselves off this precipice.”

It seems that all signs are pointing towards more opportunities for fans to find the truth that’s out there.
