There hasn’t been much news for ‘Edge Of Tomorrow 2‘ lately but writer Christopher McQuarrie (‘The Usual Suspects’,’Jack the Giant Slayer‘) has given a very vague update that almost seems to confirm that its happening. The first ‘Edge Of Tomorrow‘ didn’t fair that well at the US box offices and while reviews were mostly positive, a sequel didn’t seem to be in the cards. That is until, like ‘Pacific Rim‘, large international sales pushed the chances of a single film into at least a 2-parter if not a new ongoing series.

So what recent update did McQuarrie have on the film?

“We have the idea for the sequel locked and loaded. … I don’t know what I can say. I can only say it’s a going concern.”

Well, an idea is in hand and if he doesn’t know what he can say that sounds more like an NDA with Warner Brothers than any lack of an update. Of course, he may just not have heard anything as of late that is worthy to report. However with Cruise clearly being a fan of McQuarrie’s work and the films still being blockbusters, even if not domestically, chances are high that we’ll see something. If we know anything about McQuarrie it’s that he knows how to pen a Tom Cruise blockbuster. Aside from ‘Edge of Tomrorow’ he’s also worked with the actor on ‘Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation’, ‘Jack Reacher’, ‘and Valkyrie’. Not to mention that he has recently been tapped to flesh out ‘M:I 6 – Mission Impossible’ as well.

With how the events of the first film came to a close, I have absolutely no idea how a sequel could see the light of day but I’m very curious as I’m sure if anyone could bring something to the table with it, McQuarrie could.

Are you looking forward to the chance of an ‘Edge Of Tomorrow 2’? Do you think the secrecy is due to an NDA from Warner Brothers or has there just been no traction on the film? Share your thoughts below!
