Tom Cruise might be returning with a familiar science fiction film as he is starting to drop hints about ‘Edge of Tomorrow 2.’ The original ‘Edge of Tomorrow‘ which costarred Emily Blunt had primarily positive reviews and while not a box office hit, the film did bring in a profit. With his success of turning ‘Mission: Impossible’ into a franchise and apparently love of doing science fiction films, it actually seems overdue for him to have an ongoing science fiction series of his own.

We found out that an ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ sequel might happen while Cruise was at the New York premiere for ‘Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation’ where he mentioned that he had pitched an idea for it. Not only did Cruise pitch the idea, but he did so to the film’s director Doug Liman and writer Christopher McQuarrie who both seemed interested:

“I pitched it to McQuarrie and Doug. We were there one night and I was like, I’ve got an idea for it.”

In fact he’s already spoken with Emily Blunt about returning if they went forward though her response was a pretty vague “give me another year, please.”

With things having pretty well been left off, there are any number of ways ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ could continue on into another sequel. From another invasion to politics, the world is ripe to explore. I love the world that they created for an onscreen fest but I’m not sure if another movie that is basically an action packed ‘Groundhog Day’ is a world that I would want to revisit. I hope if they do go back for a follow up film that we will at least be covering new ground in it.

Would you be interested in seeing a sequel to ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ The film had a great idea to it but would the constant resetting work for you or would it be a plot gimmick not worth repeating? Share your thoughts below!
