After expressing his great love for World Wrestling Entertainment through social media over the years, ‘Arrow’ star Stephen Amell finally appeared on Monday Night Raw back in May when he came face to face with the bizarre Stardust at the Nassau Coliseum before the famed arena closed its doors. When the former Intercontinental and Tag Team Champion spotted the actor in the crowd, the wrestler formerly known as Cody Rhodes called out the “superhero.” The WWE Superstar continued to instigate a war of words on Twitter and even went so far as to rename one of his moves the Queen’s Crossbow to mock Amell. All this seemed to set up a feud between the two that would culminate in a match this August at WWE Summerslam in New York. However, new reports have emerged saying that the planned showdown has been scrapped.

According to esteemed wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, the bout between Stardust and Stephen Amell was seriously in the works, but it has since been called off. No reason was given as to why WWE suddenly dropped the storyline, but Stardust’s recent absence from WWE programming may have something to do with it. About three weeks ago, his father WWE Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes suddenly passed away, so Cody has taken some time off to be with his family. This time off to mourn the loss of “The American Dream” could have affected the progression of his storyline with Amell.

Even so, it’s very possible that the Emerald Archer could still mix it up with the Keeper of the Cosmic Key. Stardust is said to be returning to action next week in Chicago after the WWE’s brief tour of Japan this week. Upon his return, there’s a chance that his feud with Amell could continue after this month’s WWE Battleground event in the weeks leading up to Summerslam. Also, even if WWE management decides against Amell actually getting in the ring to wrestle Stardust himself, the actor’s ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Half Shell’ co-star Sheamus could get involved and take his place in a match. Regardless of how it actually goes down, there is plenty of time for this story to unfold in time for WWE’s biggest event of the summer.

Though Meltzer knows a thing or two about this business, one must always remember to never say never in professional wrestling. WWE has never shied away from celebrity involvement in their product in the past, so I’m not entirely convinced that we’ve seen the last of this feud.

But what do you think? Will a match between the Arrow and Stardust take place? Could Stephen Amell just stand in Sheamus’ corner as the Celtic Warrior takes on the fighter from the Fifth Dimension? Share your thoughts and theories in the comments below.
