One of the coolest parts of super hero comics is that they can literally go anywhere.  They can stick to stalking the shadows of urban alleyways or go hurdling through time, into alternate dimensions and into the furthest reaches of space.

Marvel has already touched upon these possibilities in their movies.  ‘The Avengers’ assembled to battle the invading alien hordes of the Chitauri.  Thor’s home Asgard appears to be a different plane of existence.  And of course, the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ explored the depths of space.

But there’s more to Marvel’s Universe.  Josh Brolin‘s Thanos has already been established as a major villainous force even though he has yet to come face-to-face with any of the live action heroes.  That may be coming soon, as seeds (or Easter Eggs) have already been planted in existing films that point toward The Avengers and company voyaging to the stars.

The latest bit of audition news supports the fact that additional cosmic deities will soon be joining the movie reality:

Auditions are now getting underway for the Marvel Studios feature film ‘Avengers: Infinity War – Part I’ lead and supporting roles. The auditions for new lead and supporting roles will be taking place in Los Angeles, CA. The film is the first in a two-part sequel in which Thanos plays a major role, along with the Magus. Adam Warlock’s bad side, the Magus, separates from his body and assembles the Infinity Gauntlet. Magus creates doppelgangers of Earth’s heroes as part of his plan to recreate a universe of evil. “Avengers: Infinity War – Part I” will be shot entirely on the IMAX/ARRI 2D digital camera.

Well first of all, this release flat out mentions the Magus and Adam Warlock.

Warlock’s incubation cocoon has already been shown in ‘GotG,’ setting the stage for this cosmic messiah’s introduction in the movies.  Thanos is already shown to be gathering the powerful Infinity Gems to complete his Infinity Gauntlet.  In the comics, Warlock possesses the Soul Gem, embedded in his forehead, which grants him his godly powers.  (The Vision has the Mind Gem.)

The Magus is actually part of Adam Warlock… the bad part.  Both halves of this character have factored heavily in the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ comics and other cosmic comics that involve Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet.  It is known that the Guardians will gain one new member in the sequel, so that could very well be Adam Warlock.

All of this is clearly building toward 2017’s ‘Avengers: Infinity War Part One.’  The title is borrowed from a series of comics from the 90s which helped re-establish Marvel’s cosmic side after being dormant for a number of years.  Since ‘IWP1’ doesn’t arrive until 2017, it probably won’t start shooting until next year.  This early casting call might imply that there are plans to sneak either Warlock or The Magus into a movie before then, at least in a post-credits scene.

Are you intrigued to see the Avengers in outer space?  Will the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes be teaming up with the ragtag Guardians of the Galaxy?  Can the big screen even contain all that super hero goodness?
