NetherRealm Studios has released a new gameplay trailer for the upcoming ‘Mortal Kombat X’ showing off classic series characters Kitana and Kung Lao.

The trailer itself gives a glimpse of some of the intensely violent gameplay that is to be expected in the upcoming fighting game in the iconic series. Both classic series characters Kitana and Kung Lao show off some of their brutal moves using their favored weapons of choice. To say the least, there is a copious amount of blood and cut flesh to be seen, especially near the end when Kitana does a fatality with her bladed fans.

As the newest entry in the long running fighting game franchise, ‘Mortal Kombat X’ pushes the series into the next generation. Taking place first at the end of 2011’s ‘Mortal Kombat’ and transitioning 25 years into the future, ‘Mortal Kombat X’ brings in a new story featuring new characters as well as iconic ones from the past who have since aged, such as Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Quan-Chi and Kano.

From a gameplay standpoint, ‘Mortal Kombat X’ will feature the return of the style system first introduced in 2002’s ‘Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance,’ which gives characters three different fighting styles to use in mid-battle. Using this system, players will be able to make use of the different types of attacks available through each fighting style, thus impacting strategy and style of play.

Word had first spread about a possible new entry in the ‘Mortal Kombat’ series back in April 2012 when NetherRealms first began publicly hiring for development on an eight generation title. However, the game would not be officially revealed until June 2014 when a trailer was released announcing the newest entry as ‘Mortal Kombat X’.

‘Mortal Kombat X’ will be made available for PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Windows PC on April 14.
