NetherRealm has announced in a trailer that series mainstay villain Quan Chi will be returning in the roster of the upcoming ‘Mortal Kombat X.’

Quan Chi is an evil necromancer who can manipulate the minds of his opponents. Like all of the characters in the newest entry of the long running franchise, he will also have three unique fighting styles that he can utilize while in mid-battle.

The first style that Quan Chi can use is the Sorcerer style, which allows him to use a variety of distance based spells that can occupy target areas in the fighting arena to cause damage. On top of this, Quan Chi can even cast status effect spells as well. For example, he can cast spells that buff the power of his attacks or spells that can weaken his opponent.

Quan Chi’s second fighting style is the Warlock style. This style allows Quan Chi to create inter-dimensional dark portals that he can use to attack enemies from different sides and positions which can help provide for some unpredictable combos and mix ups.

The last style that Quan Chi can implement is the Summoner style. With this, Quan Chi is able to summon demonic creatures to aid him in battle. Particularly in the trailer, he can call in a giant demonic bat that can provide assistance by quickly charging at enemies or attacking them with fireballs.

As a playable fighter, Quan Chi first appeared in ‘Mortal Kombat 4’ back in 1997. In the franchise lore; he is known as one of the primary antagonists in the game’s universe.

If you check out the video below, you can also see an example of one of Quan Chi’s brutal fatalities, which is a lovely “sword trick” to say the least.

‘Mortal Kombat X’ will release on April 14, 2015 for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4 and PS3.
