One of the last great 80s franchises has gotten one step closer to a full on reboot as director Jeff Wadlow (‘Kick-Ass 2,’ ‘Cry_Wolf’) has just completed a script for ‘Masters of the Universe.’ With ‘X-Force‘ being the next big project on his plate, it almost came out of nowhere that Wadlow had time to complete writing his He-Man movie for Mattel and Columbia Pictures! While the final draft still has quite a way to go before it hits the big screen, there is no guarantee that this what will be approved for the film.

Prior to Wadlow a script has gone through the creative minds of Terry Rossio (‘Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl,’ ‘The Lone Ranger’), Richard Wenk (‘The Expendables 2’, ‘The Equalizer’), writing duo Alex Litvak and Michael Finch (‘Predators,’ ‘Hitman: Agent 47’), and most recently John M. Chu (‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation,’ ‘Jem and the Holograms‘). This is clearly a film that Mattel would probably love to help relaunch this previously successful franchise after how well, financially at least, both the ‘G.I. Joe’ and ‘Transformers’ reboots have done.

While it’s hard to tell if all of the writers will be credited if and when the film is released, Columbia Pictures Senior Vice President DeVon Franklin posted the following to Twitter:

At the very least, this script that went to Columbia for review has them, and presumable many of their ideas, included. If Columbia Pictures does approve the script, Wadlow is one of the names in the running to direct the film. With the release and filming of ‘X-Force’ up in the air while ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ and ‘Deadpool’ move forward, this could be a better fit for his time.

Are you looking forward to a fresh new take of ‘Masters of the Universe’? Would you want He-Man and Skeletor battling their way into our Earth as the original movie did or stay firmly in the fantasy realm of Eternia? Share your thoughts below!
