Brand new early gameplay footage for the upcoming RPG ‘Firefly Online’ based on the TV series ‘Firefly’ has been released for all hardcore fans to get steadily hyped for.

Showcased by QmX Games at the recently passed New York Comic-Con 2014, ‘FireFly Online’ is a multi-user strategic RPG titled set in the universe of the cult classic TV show. It puts players in the role of a ship captain as they hire out crew members to go on adventures with. Players will also be able to trade and compete with others in an effort to do whatever it takes to survive out in the expanse of space.

The gameplay footage shown is fairly barebones in nature as it mostly features a character in a spacesuit wandering the atmospherically lit halls of a derelict space ship with not much action or combat to be seen. While the footage lacks a bit in terms of actual content, the full release is set to feature a variety of different environments like a full-on desert wildernesses, floating cities and even giant automated ships that the player can explore.

A nice touch in the footage was the addition of an old exchange from ‘Firefly’ by characters Mal (Nathan Fillion) and Jayne (Adam Baldwin). Speaking of which, ‘Firefly Online’ will actually have the original cast reprising their roles as voice actors, such as Alan Tudyk and Michael Fairman. Despite the return of familiar faces, Joss Whedon, creator of the series, will not be involved with the project.

‘Firefly Online’ was originally announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2013. Ever since then, not many details of the game have been revealed outside a few small trailers and announcements on its release platforms.

‘Firefly Online’ has no firm release date but is in-development for PC, Mac, iOS and Android. Other potential release platforms are also being considered as well.
