The second season of ‘Penny Dreadful‘ is already in the works and they have just signed Patti LuPone (‘American Horror Story: Coven‘,’Driving Miss Daisy’) to join its cast! With the spiritualist played by Helen McCrory and the Egyptologist played by Simon Russell Beale having been promoted to series regulars for the Season 2, this is starting to look like quite the well rounded cast. Showtime is doing a great job at attracting talent for the show and hopefully the few hiccups in pacing can be improved upon to give us a series that this talented cast has the ability to produce.

While at this time it is still unclear as to exactly what LuPone’s role will be on ‘Penny Dreadful,’ we do know that she is vaguely described as “a mysterious character of great importance in the life of Vanessa.” Vanessa, of course, being Eva Green’s rather disturbed character. It’ll be good to see what they have in store for her in the coming season but with LuPone involved, we’re going to probably see an amazing piece of drama revolving around her character.

Also new this season is Tony Award-winner Douglas Hodge who will be playing the role of the Scotland Yard investigator Bartholomew Rusk. He will be investigating a rash of murders happening across London. Also Sarah Greene will play Hecate who is ” the powerful daughter of Evelyn “Madame Kali” Poole.” With Madame Kali being one of the main antagonists in this season, I’m sure we’ll be seeing a lot of Hecate on screen as well. Finally we have newcomer Jonny Beauchamp that is another man with a past though this one is “quite unlike anyone else’s” which almost makes you wonder if he’ll be the only normal character on the series. Probably not.

Are you looking forward to the second season of ‘Penny Dreadful’? If so what would you like to see changed or added about the show?
