With the show getting rave reviews (including our own which you can find right here), it should hardly be a surprise that Showtime’s ‘Penny Dreadful’ is getting picked up for a second season. What is a surprise is how quickly the announcement has come out, not that any fans of the show will be complaining. So if you’ve been worried about starting a new series that may or may not get a continuation you can breath easily and quit putting off this fun little entree into the horror genre.

So what helped give the series a renewal? I would wager that it has something to do with the show’s 4.8 million weekly viewers that it has been pulling in across multiple platforms. On top of the numbers it is also the network’s most-watched new show through On Demand as well as the various Showtime Anytime avenues. Clearly it isn’t a surprise that the network is bringing the series back for another season since, according to Showtime Networks Inc. President David Nevins, “[it] was one of the easiest decisions I’ve made.”

Not only will ‘Penny Dreadful’ be returning, but we’ll be getting more of it as well! The next run will consist of ten episodes, up from the eight of this first season.

With the announcement of a second season being official, we have also learned that the show’s creator, John Logan (‘The Aviator’, ‘Hugo’) has already begun the writing process for it. With an already impressive cast of iconic characters based in the horror genre, it does make you wonder if we’ll be seeing any more added to the cast or if he will continue with just the central characters that he has focused on to date. The writing process clearly must be almost completed as production for the next season is set to begin in the months ahead, on location in Dublin, Ireland.

Are you happy to hear that ‘Penny Dreadful’ will be around for another season?
