Back in February, Josh Trank’s reboot of ‘Fantastic Four’ for Fox locked in their new version of Marvel’s First Family when Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, and Jamie Bell were cast as Mr. Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, the Human Torch, and the Thing. But with the heroes decided, they needed a villain to keep them on their toes. Naturally, Doctor Doom is the way to go when choosing an adversary for an FF origin story. However, there was talk about possibly gender-swapping the dictator and casting a woman in the role for yet another controversial casting decision (for some people). But then earlier this month, a shortlist of actors emerged containing potential candidates for the most classic villain in the foursome’s rogues gallery. At the time, Sam Riley, Eddie Redmayne, Toby Kebbell, and Domhnall Gleeson were the frontrunners for the role. Now, a winner has emerged from that group and the doctor is in.

According to reports, Toby Kebbell of ‘RocknRolla’, ‘The Sorcerer’s Apprentice’, and ‘Prince of Persia’ will take the thrown of Latveria and don the iconic cape and mask of Viktor von Doom. Apparently, it came down to Kebbell, Gleeson, and ‘Boardwalk Empire’ star Jack Huston as the final three choices. But in the end, the British actor came out on top and is currently in negotiations for the role.

In Fantastic Four mythology, Doom was a contemporary of Reed Richards that also stumbled upon some superpowers at a young age. Paired with his genius intellect, ruthless attitude, and unchecked ego, this baddie is most definitely a force to be reckoned with.

With almost all the major pieces in play, Trank and company are just about ready to get things started on the long-awaited, much talked about 20th Century Fox reboot. But as we await the official announcement of the start of production, what do you think about Toby Kebbell landing the role of Doctor Doom? Do you think he has what it takes to play one of the most powerful men in the Marvel Universe? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
