It’s been reported that 20th Century Fox is in the final stages of finalizing its cast for ‘The Fantastic Four’ franchise reboot. Specifically, the studio is finalizing deals with Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell to star in the Josh Trank directed film. This should come as no surprise, since the first three names have been rumored to have been in the running for these roles for months. Only Bell’s name is a surprise.
Michael B. Jordan will portray Johnny Storm/The Human Torch; Kate Mara will be Susan Storm/The Invisible Girl; Miles Teller is Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic; and Jamie Bell is, obviously Ben Grimm/The Thing. The roles were previously embodied by Chris Evans, Jessica Alba, Ioan Gruffudd and Michael Chiklis respectively.
It was recently reported that the plot of the movie completely altered the team’s famous origin, in which they were blasted by radiation on a space mission, to one involving them being government test subjects, but that plot was immediately denied. But considering that the first ‘Fantastic Four’ came out in 2005 and its sequel “Rise of the Silver Surfer’ came out in 2007, it may make sense to alter the origin somewhat just to differentiate it. But then again, the reason the previous movies weren’t very popular is because they deviated considerably from the comics.
But already looking at the cast, this film may even move further! Johnny Storm is normally a blonde, blue-eyed Caucasian. Jordan is African American. The Storms are brother and sister, so clearly here one of them was adopted. Reed Richards is an older man with silver hair on his temples. Teller… isn’t. And Ben Grimm is a bulky, former football player and Bell, despite being 27, still looks much younger. These actors could easily be playing teenagers! So right off the bat, we know they’re taking a… different approach.
