Earlier in the week, variant covers from Empire Magazine, new stills as well as potential spoilers from ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ were revealed. Now, in an interview with Empire, director Bryan Singer has dropped what could be called some spoilery hints for this and his upcoming sequel ‘X-Men: Apocalypse‘ films!

(WARNING! SPOILERS AHEAD!)

First off, everyone who took a look at the covers probably noticed that Rogue had her own variant cover of the 25 listed. But wait, wasn’t Anna Paquin’s (‘True Blood’,’Trick ‘r Treat’) character Rogue cut from ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’? Well that’s the impression everyone was under as it was reported she was only in one scene but here she was all suited up again. According to Singer, while the scene we knew about was cut, “it does not mean that we won’t see her in the film.” Insert fanboy SQUEE right there.

Of course we can’t talk about mutants without bringing Wolverine into the fold. Mainly regarding his claws. While Singer was vague on the issue of how future Wolverine regained his adamantium claws, he did suggest that possibly Magneto reconstituted them  “[Wolverine] has a different relationship with Magneto,” explains the director and suggested  perhaps Magneto forged them. Is that how it’s going to play out on screen or is he just going to be playing with us on solid answers? It’d be an interesting twist from the original story where Magneto is the one that took Logan’s metal and Apocalypse gave it back to him when he made him the Horseman of Death.

At the very least, Singer likes to talk about Apocalypse. He previously had said that:

“One thing that interests me is the notion of ancient mutants. What would people thousands of years ago, without the benefit of science, think mutants were? And more importantly, what would mutants thousands of years ago think they were? Gods? Titans? Angels? Demons? And if such mutants did exist thousands of years ago, what became of them? Did one survive?”

In addition, screenwriter Simon Kinberg just mentioned that:

“Age of Apocalypse was one of my favorite stories. We like the stakes of it, and it feels like a story that could impact a lot of our favorite characters in big, dramatic ways. We feel it’s a very different story from Days of Future Past. For starters, it’s a very different villain, and the characters will be in very different places emotionally.”

While I can’t see them actually following the ‘Age of Apocalypse’ story line, what if I’m wrong? What if Singer and crew are actually ambitious enough to turn the entire timeline, and the character’s that we’ve been introduced to so far and throw them into another type of a post apocalyptic world? Of course there’s always the Fantastic Four that we could see twisted, killed off, or running a rebellion in the future.

Just throwing that out there.

Singer did, however, shoot down the rumor that Apocalyspe would end up being a riff of Onslaught and inhabiting Magneto’s body. On that matter he said “That’s not the case, and nor will that particular thing be in the film.”  THANK YOU. I was really not liking that idea when mixed in with everything else that we’ve been hearing.

So what do you think about the latest on rumors? Are we going to be seeing more Rogue after all? Was the Wolverine claws an afterthought or misdirection? Are you looking forward to Apocalypse? Share your thoughts below!
