The go-to writing team for sci-fi action movies, Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner, who penned the script for ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ are being brought back for the third film in the series.  The second movie is currently in post-production with a release date set for May 2nd, 2014.  Interestingly, Marvel has already staked out the release dates for a third and fourth film, on June 10, 2016, and May 4, 2018, respectively.

Andrew Garfield is expected to return, as well as director Mark Webb, who directed the first two films.  The second movie features Jamie Foxx as Electro and Paul Giamatti as The Rhino, and it is heavily rumored that the third will pit Spidey against all of his worse foes united as The Sinister Six.  Fans have speculated that one of the future movies will probably showcase the classic “Death of Gwen Stacy” story arc.

Beyond that, it is expected that the character Mary-Jane Watson will debut in the third film, after Shailene Woodley’s turn in the role was cut from ‘ASM 2.’  It is, however, unclear if the part will once again go to Woodley or if another actress will be hired.  (For his part, Andrew Garfield expressed that he wished the part would go to a male actor.)

Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach  will be back as producers.  Stan Lee and Steve Ditko will once again be credited for creating the source material, however if they do film the “Death of Gwen Stacy” I wonder if Ditko’s replacement John Romita Jr. will be given the credit since he actually drew those issues.

Kurtzman and Orci already have a lot on their plates as they have been confirmed as returning to script ‘Star Trek 3’ and are producing Universal’s reboots of the ‘Mummy’ (this time, not comedic) and ‘Van Helsing‘ franchises, an adaptation of the comic book ‘Locke & Key’ and ‘Dragonology’.  The pair are also the creators of the new ‘Sleepy Hollow’ TV series which has proven to be a hit.  Whew!  When do they sleep?
