Another fairy tale may be joining the small screen ranks as Deadline is reporting that Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (‘Fringe,’ ‘Star Trek 2,’ ‘Cowboys and Aliens,’ Transformers’) are developing a series based on the classic Washington Irving short story ‘The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.’

The show would be set in the present day with Constable Ichabod Crane partnering up with a female sheriff to solve mysterious and supernatural crimes and occurrences happening in the town of Sleepy Hollow, a town which also happens to be ravaged by good and evil.

The two already have director Len Wiseman on board to direct the pilot. Wiseman, you may recall, also directed the upcoming ‘Total Recall’ reboot and the ‘Underworld’ movies. He had worked with Kurtzman and Orci before directing the pilot episode of CBS’ ‘Hawaii 5-0’ so when Kurtzman reached out to him to direct, he happily agreed.

Kutzman and Orci will write the script for the series with Phillip Iscove whose idea it was based upon.  They will also serve as executive producers with Wiseman.

The series sounds like a mixture of ‘Grimm’ meets ‘Sherlock’ but if ‘Fringe’ is any example, the series will have its own take on the procedural fairy tale genre.

‘Sleepy Hollow’ is currently being pitched to Fox, CBS, ABC and NBC for a place to call home.
